Foreign Travel Grants Available for Area Educators

NEWARK, Ohio (September 9, 2015) – Grant applications are being accepted by the Licking County Foundation for 2016 Tibbie Leslie Travel Grants until Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 5:00 pm. The Tibbie Leslie Travel Grant program provides stipends of up to $2,000 for travel outside the continental United States. The grants will be awarded to educators in Licking County who plan foreign travel to broaden their knowledge, experience and understanding in their particular field of interest during the summer of 2015. Eligible to apply are: teachers at any public or parochial school in Licking County and educators (teachers, instructors, professors) at colleges or universities in Licking County. About Tibbie Leslie
Elizabeth Randolph Leslie, known as Tibbie, was raised in Newark, Ohio. She graduated from Newark High School in 1950 and from Miami University in 1954. Ms. Leslie taught physical education at Withrow High School in Cincinnati for 30 years. Every summer, she returned to Newark to visit her family then left for a trip abroad with a group of educators. Her travel experiences were so inspiring that she decided to help other teachers and students travel. Ms. Leslie died in 1995; and she established the Tibbie Leslie Educational Travel Scholarship Fund at the Licking County Foundation through her will.
