Licking County Foundation recently awarded Leaders for Learning grants totaling $5,316.31 to 11 teachers to enhance their professional development or classroom activities. These dedicated educators are past recipients of Licking County Foundation’s Leaders for Learning Award which makes them eligible to apply for annual grants of up to $500 as long as they continue to teach in Licking County. These grants are made possible through generous support by the Lindorf-Warner Memorial Fund of the Licking County Foundation.
Catherine Allen, Newark City School, Gifted Intervention Specialist: $500 to purchase tickets to COSI for a student field trip to the 21st Century Learning Lab. The field trip will provide a hands-on, immersive learning experience for students.
Pam Bice, Granville Middle School: $500 to purchase new books for two of her fellow ELA teachers in need of reading materials to entice and engage their students in reading.
Theresa Boehmer and Denise Edmunds, Licking Valley High School: $1,000 to purchase new books for the school’s Summer Reading Program. Offering free books to students will allow them to easily continue to develop their reading skills throughout the summer.
Gayle Cronin, C-TEC Medical Assisting Program: $394.42 to purchase a GoPro and necessary camera accessories to assist with interactive learning within the classroom. The GoPro will allow students who miss class to watch recordings of lectures and activities in order to stay updated on the classroom curriculum.
Barbara Deavers, Hebron Elementary School: $483.57 to purchase dry erase boards, flashcards, and other hands-on learning tools to create a productive learning environment among her kindergarten students. These tools allow students to enhance their skills through a variety of interactive learning methods.
Rachel Hays, Oregon Elementary School: $500 to purchase new Title 1 reading books for the continued education and enjoyment of her students and to foster a love of reading.
Maura Horgan, Newark High School: $440 to purchase books for students attending the Pre-Kindergarten Readiness Academy. This six-week summer program better prepares children for kindergarten—focusing on literacy, STEM, fine motor skills, and socialization.
Scott Jackson, Phoenix Central School: $500 to renew the math site license at Phoenix Central for an engaging online math program to help improve students’ math skills both at school and at home.
Jill McLaughlin, Northridge Intermediate School: $498.32 to purchase storage cubicles and flexible student seating for her classroom. This will allow for an open, collaborative classroom space for students.
Juliana Rauch, Newark High School: $500 to purchase supplies needed to conduct a week-long foreign language camp for Newark City Schools students in 4th through 6th grade. This camp will give younger students a glimpse into learning foreign language, hopefully sparking an interest and increasing student achievement in high school.
