Licking County Foundation recently concluded the Licking County Endowment Building Institute — a series of workshops to teach organizations skills needed to cultivate, market, and steward endowment gifts.
After participating, the Food Pantry Network of Licking County established an endowment fund. “It’s our hope that as our endowment continues to increase over the years we will continue to be financially strong for our community so that we can serve families in need, assuring no one in Licking County goes hungry,” said the Food Pantry’s Board of Directors.
The organization created an agency fund at LCF in 2004. After the responsible care and return on investment the Foundation provided, they knew establishing an endowment fund would be beneficial. “The management and oversite that LCF offers will ensure that donations made to our fund are treated with respect and will ensure that the interest is spent the proper way for years into the future,” said Chuck Moore, Executive Director of the Food Pantry.
The Food Pantry Network was established in 1981 to coordinate the acquisition and distribution of emergency food supplies. Twenty-seven years later, they continue that work through the operation of food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other programs — managed by an army of over 300 volunteers.
There are many ways to give back: volunteer at a local produce market or pantry, or make a difference through one of the upcoming fundraising events such as the Granville Turkey Trot, Operation Feed, SuperMarket Sweep or Elves in Action. Cash and food donations are always welcome.
Chuck’s advice to local nonprofits? “I recommend all organizations consider setting up an endowment fund. This is a great way to help families and individuals who love your organization and the work that you do to support you now and to continue to have an impact on your organization’s mission in the future.”
