Wisconsin native Tom Jeffris is a living example that one person can make a difference. Growing up in Janesville, Wisconsin, Tom’s family was committed to giving back to their home state. Tom’s father, Bruce Jeffris, was Chairman of the Board of the Parker Pen Company. After retirement in 1979, Bruce, his wife Eleanor, and Tom established The Jeffris Family Foundation (JFF), dedicated to historic preservation in the smaller communities of Wisconsin. In 2009, they extended their reach to 7 other Midwestern states, including Ohio. The JFF strives to support projects with national significance and a unique sense of place in small towns, including The Louis Sullivan Building of Newark, Ohio.

Designed by American architect Louis Sullivan, the building is being restored through efforts of the Licking County Foundation (LCF) as the future home of Explore Licking County. After completing a rigorous application process, LCF was awarded a $750,000 matching grant from The Jeffris Family Foundation. Thanks to generous community support, the $1.5 million match has been raised to secure the grant, which will support restoring the Sullivan Building’s spectacular façade.

 “The project has earned this opportunity by completing quality research, conducting thoughtful planning, and demonstrating community enthusiasm for embarking upon a capital campaign. The Jeffris Family Foundation is pleased to help restore one of America’s architectural treasures,” said Tom Jeffris.

Tom Jeffris, a fourth generation Wisconsinite, has been inspired by this once in a lifetime project and feels committed to investing in our home to help preserve our national treasure. His significant and generous support will ensure The Louis Sullivan Building of Newark will stand tall for generations to come.
