People who knew Lucy Cotterman knew she was an animal lover. A lifelong Licking County resident who had given 34 years of service to Lakewood Schools, Lucy was especially recognized for her love of and skill with horses. Her love of horses was so well known she claimed she had “horse disease”. When Lucy passed away in 2017, her husband of 60 years, Richard, knew that he wanted her legacy to be remembered for how devoted she was to animals.
Richard came to the Licking County Foundation for help in finding a way to remember and honor his love’s legacy. The result is the Lucy E. Cotterman Memorial Fund to benefit the Licking County Humane Society.
A Designated Agency Fund is a wonderful way for a donor to support a cause or an organization that holds a special meaning for them. Others can join in the celebration by making a gift to the fund, too. Grants made from the fund at the recommendation of the donor benefit the organization named in the fund – a lasting tribute and an investment in the services provided by that organization to benefit our community.
By selecting the Licking County Humane Society, Richard knew that Lucy’s love for animals could be expressed for generations to come in grants that help the Humane Society to provide shelter, health care and adoption services for animals in need. And in working with the Licking County Foundation, Richard knew that the Fund would be stewarded professionally so that Lucy’s passion and care for animals would support the Humane Society long into the future.
